Today, Friday 4th December 2020 at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, the court affirmed the death penalty imposed on Maryam Sanda. She was previously sentenced to death because she stabbed her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, to death in cold blood in November 2017.

At the appeal court, Justice Yusuf Halilu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama, Abuja, had in his judgment delivered on January 27, 2020, stated that the circumstantial evidence rightly proved that Maryam “fatally” stabbed her husband to death in Abuja on November 19, 2017.

Maryam, who is a mother of two children fathered by her late husband, had on February 19, 2020, filed 20-ground notice of appeal, seeking for an order discharging, and acquitting her from the death sentence.

She contended by the appeal that the judgment convicting her was sporadically tainted by lot of bias and prejudices which led her denial of right to fair hearing in the previous court hearing that sentenced her to death. However, she has lost the appeal today again. No more option for her, sadly.
