Floyd Mayweather, the retired ex-champ, just dropped an hints that he will be back in the ring, the fight follows a widely and superbly ridiculed 2018 “exhibition” fight he had against a Japanese kickboxer, however, organisers granted a lot more details Today, Monday 16 November, 2020.
The match is set be among events to be coming in the “Mega 2021” event, since it is going to be hosted at the Tokyo Dome in the Japanese capital on February 28, 2021, the committee for the production made it known in a press release.
The committee claimed it would feature “champion-class” fighters, which undoubtedly includes the ex-champ, Floyd Mayweather, but more details were yet to be released on it — including who the welterweight star, Mayweather, is going face in the ring, and conditions guiding the match.
In a video dropped by Mayweather on Instagram last week, the 43-year-old teased about the fight by saying:
“Tokyo, Japan, I’m coming back, in 2021.”
“I know the Olympics is in Japan in 2021, but me, myself, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather and my team will be doing something big in Tokyo Dome… Japan, I’m on my way.”
Floyd Mayweather had retired from boxing close to three years ago, and although he had previously made an announcement that he was “coming out of retirement in 2020”, sadly, he is yet to be featured this year, 2020.
Undoubtedly, he is a legend in the boxing world by holding a record unbeaten 50-0, Mayweather is no stranger to Japan and to the world at large, especially, he fought an exhibition match against Tenshin Nasukawa, MMA star, in December 2018 — the last time he was coaxed out of retirement for a big payday.
Floyd Mayweather floored the kickboxer, Tenshin Nasukawa, who was less than half his age three times in the ultimate first round before the trainer of the Japanese fighter rushed in to call for the fight to be stopped.
According to Mayweather, the two-minute earned him a whooping $9 million, a real money ritual.
Besides, in 2017, Mayweather knocked out mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor in the 10th round of a super-hyped boxing match.
And in 2015, the Philippine boxing megastar Manny Pacquiao in their “Fight of the Century” suffered defeat from Mayweather.
The victory of Floyd Mayweather over Manny Pacquaio earned him $300 million that still maintains the most lucrative fight in history and generated over $600 million in revenue for the fight.
